An RS-422 IC is an integrated circuit designed to enable communication using the RS-422 standard — a differential serial communication protocol used for high-speed, long-distance, and point-to-multipoint communication.

RS-422 (also known as TIA/EIA-422) is a balanced differential communication standard similar to RS-485 but with key differences:

• One driver, multiple receivers (point-to-multipoint)

• Unidirectional from the transmitter to the receivers

• Supports long cable runs (up to 1.2 km)

• High-speed: up to 10 Mbps
