ESD

ESD is a form of contamination, which is the uncontrolled transfer of electrostatic charge from one object to another that can damage a microchip. ESD results from the contact or friction of two materials with different electrostatic potentials called static electricity. Atoms with an excess of negative charge are attracted to neighboring atoms with a positive charge. This current release voltage generated by attraction can be as high as tens of thousands of volts.
